Education
Scenario
A school district or university wants screens in entrances, cafeterias, and corridors showing events, timetables, lunch menus, and student achievements. Each campus manages its own content, while the district needs to broadcast closures and emergency alerts to every screen.
Recommended setup
| Recommendation | |
|---|---|
| Hardware | ChromeOS devices (often already managed by IT), Raspberry Pi for low-cost corridor screens |
| Groups | One group per campus; tags like cafeteria, entrance, library |
| Layout | Main zone (events and news) + sidebar (clock, weather) + ticker (announcements) |
| Schedule | Term-time weekdays; cafeteria menus dayparted for breakfast and lunch; holiday fallback playlist |
| Plan | Starter for simple loops; Pro for layouts across many campuses |
Set it up
Set up roles per campus
Invite each campus’s communications lead as Editor. District staff get Admin. See Members & roles.
Pair screens
Install Veyli Player on ChromeOS or Raspberry Pi, pair each into its campus group, and tag by location.
Build campus playlists
Upload event posters and student work to per-campus folders in the Media library. Use validity windows so event posters expire after the event date.
Add cafeteria menus
Create a menu playlist and schedule it with dayparting on screens tagged cafeteria.
Prepare district-wide alerts
Build playlists for snow closures, lockdowns, and evacuations in advance so the district can trigger them instantly with Emergency override.
Tips
- Celebrate students. Photos of achievements and student artwork get far more attention than administrative notices (check your photo consent policy first).
- Plan for holidays. Set a holiday-mode schedule with a date range so screens don’t advertise last term’s events.
- Use the RSS widget to pull news straight from the school website. See Widgets.
Screens in quiet areas like libraries should have Play audio off for all items.
