Players
A player is the Veyli Player app running on the device attached to a display. Once paired, the player downloads its schedule and media, caches everything locally, and plays it — even when the internet drops. Together, the display and its player make up a Screen in the dashboard.

How the player works
- Pair — on first launch the player shows a 6-character pairing code. Enter it in the dashboard under Screens → Add screen (full walkthrough).
- Sync — the player checks for schedule changes every 60 seconds, or immediately when you publish (changes are pushed).
- Download — new media is downloaded in the background. Content only switches over once every file it needs is fully cached, so viewers never see a half-loaded playlist.
- Play — playback runs entirely from the local cache.
- Report — the player sends a heartbeat every 30 seconds and uploads proof-of-play logs. A screen with no heartbeat for 2 minutes is marked Offline (Monitoring).
Offline-first caching
Veyli players are designed to keep playing through network outages:
- Everything in the current and upcoming schedule is cached on the device.
- If the connection drops, the player keeps following its last-known schedule indefinitely, including dayparts and date ranges.
- Proof-of-play logs are queued locally and uploaded when the connection returns.
- By default the cache may use up to 80% of free storage. Least-recently-used media that is no longer scheduled is evicted first.
Web page and live-data widgets (weather, RSS) need connectivity to show fresh data. While offline, they show their last cached version where possible.
Kiosk mode
For unattended screens, the player should start automatically on boot and stay in the foreground. Every platform guide below covers its own kiosk and auto-start settings. In general:
- Launch Veyli Player on boot.
- Hide system UI, notifications and on-screen keyboards.
- Disable sleep, screen savers and automatic OS updates during business hours.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection where possible.
Hardware recommendations
| Use | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Single full-screen image/video playlist, 1080p | Any supported device; Raspberry Pi 4 or an entry-level Android box is enough |
| Multi-zone layouts with video | 4 GB RAM or more, hardware H.264/H.265 decoding |
| 4K video | BrightSign Series 5, recent Tizen/webOS displays, or a Windows mini PC with a modern iGPU |
| Video walls / interactive touch | Windows 10/11 mini PC |
| Storage | At least 16 GB free; 64 GB+ if you play lots of video |
Remote management
Once paired, you can send remote commands to any player: Reboot, Restart player, Refresh content, Take screenshot, Clear cache and Identify.
